“Why is there no schnaps made from mangoes…?”
A simple question really, but the one that started it all. One that Josef asked himself many years ago when he moved from his rather frosty home town in Austria to Brisbane, Australia in order to enjoy a little sunshine and warmth.
For generations his family, like many other European families, had been making their own Schnaps from late-harvest backyard fruit like apples and plums in the Austrian countryside to warm their spirits and bodies in the cold winter months. His question was the inspiration for the Down Under Spirit Co, which was started by Josef’s Food Scientist daughter, Resi, and her Space Engineer husband, Sam. The launch product, “Mango Heart” is a dedication to Josef and his love of sunshine and juicy Australian mangoes.
